SCULPTRA – POLY-L-LACTIC ACID COLLAGEN STIMULATOR

Sculptra is a modern collagen stimulator based on poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), which works differently from traditional dermal fillers. Instead of simply “filling” wrinkles, it stimulates the skin to produce its own collagen. As a result, the effect develops gradually, looks very natural, and is long-lasting.

After the age of 20, we lose approximately 1% of collagen each year. This leads to skin laxity, reduced firmness, the appearance of wrinkles, and a loss of facial volume. Sculptra helps reverse some of these changes by improving the skin’s structure from within.

HOW DOES THE TREATMENT WORK?

The Sculptra treatment is performed by a medical practitioner who precisely injects the product into selected areas of the face or body.

  • Treatment time: approximately 30–45 minutes.
  • Anaesthesia: a numbing cream is usually applied to improve comfort.
  • Injection technique: the product is administered using a fine needle or cannula into the deeper layers of the skin or subcutaneous tissue.
  • Number of sessions: typically 2–3 sessions spaced a few weeks apart, depending on the skin’s condition and the desired outcome.
  • Result: Sculptra does not give an immediate “filled” effect. Results appear gradually over several weeks as new collagen is produced.

Sculptra is primarily designed to improve the quality and volume of the skin in areas affected by collagen loss and laxity.

WHAT IS THE DOWNTIME AFTER A SCULPTRA TREATMENT?

One of the advantages of Sculptra is its relatively short recovery period. Most patients can quickly return to daily activities.

  • Return to activities: usually possible on the same day without the need for extended downtime.
  • Possible post-treatment symptoms: mild swelling, redness, tenderness or small bruises at injection sites, which typically resolve within a few days.
  • Post-treatment massage: gentle massage of the treated area is often recommended for several days (e.g., 5 times a day for 5 minutes) to ensure even distribution of the product.
  • Avoid: intense physical activity, sauna, sunbeds, and excessive heat exposure for the first few days.
  • Appearance of results: early results can be noticed after a few weeks, with full improvement usually visible within 1–3 months.

 

HOW LONG DO SCULPTRA RESULTS LAST?

Sculptra results are long-lasting because they rely on your body’s own collagen production.

  • On average, results last for around 2 years, and sometimes even longer.
  • As the natural ageing process continues, a maintenance treatment may be considered in the future.
